My Own History With AdSense

In April 2005, a Danish forum owner told his list -- including me -- about a new thing he had from Google. He had put AdSense on his forum, and he made some money with it.

I already had banner ads on my home site, but they didn't make me any income at all, so I thought: Why not try AdSense?

So I did. I put them on, as Google proposed them, with colourful themes, borders and all. Since I already used banners, I chose the same size for my ads: 468 x 60.

Then I tested the ad by clicking on it myself. I couldn't see the click registered, so I contacted Google, who politely told me that it was against their rules to click on your own ads.

Three weeks later, I started to see a few clicks, but they made me only very little money. Less than one dollar per day.

It was only when I got hold of a book that I learnt more about AdSense, and when I finally invested in Joel Comm's book about AdSense ($97 back then), by income sky-rocketed. I went from less than $1 per day to more than $10, and then $40, and then... One day, I had more than $100 in income.

Now I make a steady income of around $2,000 per months, and even much when it's Easter or Christmas.

Get Accepted Into AdSense Programme

Your first hurdle is to get accepted into the AdSense. The easiest way to go is by creating a blog at Blogger.com and write a few blog posts.

Then you can apply for the programme, and you should get accepted in a few days. The last time I helped a friend with this, she got her welcome letter within an hour after having applied for it.

When you create your first blog, don't make it inside the money making-business. And stay away from illegal things, of course, but also from pornography, violence, hatred, etc. Use your common sense.

Integrate The Ads On Your Site

The main secret of making money with AdSense is the way you integrate the ad blocks on your site.

You shouldn't make them stand out. Use the same colours that you use on your site, and use the same background colour, both on the borders of your ads, as well as the ad's background itself.

The ads have to blend in with the content, so they almost look like a part of it.
